Al Banaat

Founded in 2023, Al-Banaat is a community based organization dedicated to empowering girls and young women in Maralal, Samburu County, Kenya. Our core focus lies in addressing Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) – critical issues that hinder their development and well-being.

Over 200 Million

Girls and Women alive today have undergone female genital mutilation. This year, nearly 4.4 million girls will be at risk of this harmful practice. This equates to more than 12,000 cases every day. And 44,320 excess deaths

And Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is estimated to be a leading cause of death among girls and young women in countries where it is practiced, causing more deaths than Enteric Infections, Respiratory Infections, or Malaria.

We envision a future where girls in Maralal are free from the physical and psychological trauma associated with FGM and GBV. We aim to cultivate a generation of self-assured young women equipped with the skills and confidence to realize their full potential.

Our nearly 8,000 committed staff members are ready to help.

What We Do?

At Al Banaat, we utilize a unique approach that combines martial arts instruction with comprehensive education. This empowers girls to develop:

  •  Self-defense skills: Protecting themselves from harm.
  • Resilience: The ability to bounce back from challenges.
  • Strong sense of self-worth: Confidence and self-belief.

These tools are essential in combating:

    Female Genital Mutilation
  • (FGM): Procedures that alter or injure the female genital organs for non-medical reasons.
  • Gender-Based Violence (GBV): Physical, sexual, or emotional violence directed
